The Lāna'i Community Health Center’s mission is to take care of the community of Lāna`i by directly providing health services (primary care, dental, behavioral health and selected specialty services) to the community; providing activities and services through partnerships with local organizations as well as the many off-island organizations reaching out to Lāna`i by serving as coordinator, advocate, resource, initiator, and convener;
and working collaboratively to provide space for partners who can provide needed services for Lāna`i.

Lanai Fitness Challenge

Welcome to the Lana’i Fitness Challenge 2021! We had so much success last year, we knew we would have to host it again this year! As we kick off the challenge in the month of October, we have a few friendly reminders.

IF YOU HAVE NOT SIGNED UP YET, PLEASE DO SO BY CLICKING HERE:

Please download the “Move Spring” app from your mobile device app store and put in the organization code “LANAI”. Once your account has been created, the Lanai Fitness Challenge admin team will put you into your age group weekly challenge. If you are experiencing issues, please feel free to email wellnessliving@lanaihealth.org. We will be happy to assist you with any technical issues.

Each registered participant:

  1. MUST HAVE THEIR OWN EMAIL ADDRESS in order to access to the “Move Spring” app to track their progress.
  2. Will receive an event shirt (limited size and colors)
  3. Must have a step tracking device from the list below:
    1. Android Phones (OS 5.0 or above) –  Google Fit app (Android, Pebble, Xiaomi, and more)
    2. Apple Watch

Categories for the Fitness Challenge:

#1 Ages 0 to 9: The goal is to hit at least 4,000 steps a day which is 28,000 steps a week.

#2 Ages 10 to 13: The goal is to hit at least 7,000 steps a day which is 47,000 steps a week.

#3 Ages 14 to 17: The goal is to hit at least 8,000 steps a day, which is 56,000 steps a week.

#4 Ages 18 to 49: The goal is to hit at least 10,000 steps a day, which is 70,000 steps a week.

#5 Ages 50 to 59: The goal is to hit at least 8,000 steps a day, which is 56,000 steps a week.

#6 Ages 60 to 69:  The goal is to hit at least 5,000 steps a day, which is 35,000 steps a week.

#7 Ages 70+: The goal is to hit at least 4,000 steps a day, which is 28,000 steps a week.

Social Media Challenge

Rules for social media challenge:

  1. You must be following these Instagram accounts:
    • @lanaihealth
    • @wearemauihealth
  2. Your Instagram account must be public.

*You can set your account back to private after winners are announced.

  1. Tag @lanaihealth and @wearemauihealth in your image.
  2. Use the hashtag #lanaifitnesschallenge2021 in your description.
  3. Pictures must be taken during the week of the social media theme. Do not plan ahead and take a bunch of pictures. We want this event to give you a month of adventure along with your exercise 😊 But side note, you can post a picture everyday if you plan to get creative with the theme of the week!

Winners will be randomly selected and announced as a repost on the account of @lanaihealth. Anyone signed up for the challenge can participate. Prizes will be shipped out to those not on Lana’i.

About Lanai Fitness Challenge

Maui Health and Lanai Community Health Center are excited to announce our 2nd annual event, the “Lanai Fitness Challenge”, for the month of October. This will once again replace Lana’i Community Health Center’s annual “Ohana Wellness Day”. This event is in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month because preventative care, which includes physical, mental and emotional well-being, saves lives.

This month-long virtual challenge encourages everyone to be active in any form that they choose: walking, jogging, running, swimming, hiking, biking, etc. This virtual format opens up the challenge to not only Lāna’i residents, but also adults and youth of all ages, across the state and country! We anticipate over 700 participants with equal participation between children (0-17 years old) and adults (18 years old and older). We also encourage families to participate together to promote and support fun, physical activity for every member of their household.

Each registered participant will need to pick up their shirt from Dole Park on SEPT 27th at 5PM. If you would like your shirt mailed to you, please note a $8 charge for shipment of 1 shirt, $16 charge for shipment 2 or more shirts.

We ask that all registered download the smart phone app ‘Move Spring’ and use the code “LANAI”. You will be able to log and track your progress in the tracking app and also see how it stacks up against others. *We will not be selling fitbits for this event, so please plan accordingly to purchase your own tracking device before the event start date.
