Ohana Wellness Day – November 8, 2014
On Saturday, November 8, the Lāna’i Community Health Center hosted its LCHC Ohana Wellness Day. The event was created as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in conjunction to a partnership with Susan G. Komen. Due to weather, it had been rescheduled from the original date in October. LCHC provided attendees with pink t-shirts that featured the tagline “We Walk As One” to commemorate the event’s Memory Walk, a stroll around Dole Park dedicated to honoring and celebrating those affected by cancer. LCHC featured several healthcare services during the Wellness Fair portion of the event at no cost. Among the services and information offered were breast exams performed by LCHC’s registered nurse, physical therapy, family planning, smoking cessation, blood glucose screenings, BMI checks, smokelyzer tests, blood pressure checks, minor eyeglass repairs and flu shots. The event concluded with a special performance by Halau Hula ‘O Lana’ikaula. LCHC estimates 200 people attended the event.
