Appointed as Executive Director on October 12, 2008, Diana represents the Health Center in its interactions with the community, legislature, executive branches of government, federal government officials and other leaders in the healthcare community. She is also responsible for managing the overall operations, finances, and facilities of the Center in accordance with Board-approved policies, plans, decisions and directives.
Dr. Shaw brings to the small community of Lāna‘i over 25 years of progressively responsible positions in health care and program development. Originally from Upstate New York, she relocated to Kaua‘i in September 2003, and then to Lāna‘i in October 2008. She received her PhD in Social Policy from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts; her Masters of Business Administration from St. John Fisher College; and her Masters in Public Health from the University of Rochester; both colleges are located in Rochester, New York. Dr. Shaw is a 2007 Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award of Excellence Examiner, a board member of the Hawai’i Primary Care Association, a member of the National Association for Community Health Centers, and is a member of the Nā Hoaloha o Lāna‘i.
Prior to joining LCHC, she was the Kaua‘i Center Director of Small Business Development Center (SBDC) where she provided counseling, training, education, and other specialized services for SBDC Clients. The SBDC is a partnership program between the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo and the U. S. Small Business Administration that provides small businesses with free counseling and training to start a new business or expand an existing one.
