Jared, a native of Wahiawa on the island of Oahu, has been a pivotal member of the Lāna‘i Community Health Center medical team since 2014. His journey in healthcare began in his participation in the Boy Scouts of America becoming an Eagle Scout, obtaining the Venturing Ranger Award, and fostering his interest in serving others and learning foundational first aid skills. After graduating from ASSETS High School and he then pursued an Undergraduate Degree in History and Hawaiian Studies at BYU-Hawai’i. During his time at BYU-Hawai’i, Jared embraced the opportunity to sail on the Hawaiian voyaging canoe, Iosepa, from Lāʻie, Oahu to Kealakekua Bay, Hawaiʻi and to Kalaupapa, Molokaʻi, where he learned invaluable lessons in teamwork, communication, and the importance of culture.
His passion for healthcare started during his work at Wāhiawa General Hospital as a transporter and surgical assistant and that led him to the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, where he completed his Nursing Degree through the Master’s Entry Program into Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner Program, equipping him with the skills to provide comprehensive primary care services. Jared also worked at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center as a certified nurse’s aide on a medical surgical floor during nursing school. Jared was also a recipient of the Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship from Mauli Ola Mālamalama administered by Papa Ola Lokahi which supported him to complete the nurse practitioner program.
As a Family Nurse Practitioner at Lāna‘i Community Health Center, Jared delivers patient-centered care with a focus on holistic well-being. His role expanded when he became the Associate Medical Director, a position in which he oversees the day-to-day operations of medical and dental care at the health center.
Jared’s commitment to his profession and his community is reflected in his dedication to improving the health outcomes of his patients. His background in Hawaiian culture and history informs his approach to care, fostering a deep connection with the patients and the community he serves.
