Investing in Lānaʻi’s Future: Applications Now Open for the LCHC & Kugelman Family Foundation Scholarship

The Lānaʻi Community Health Center is proud to announce that applications are now open for the LCHC & Kugelman Family Foundation Scholarship, an opportunity designed to support local students pursuing careers in health care and health services.

This scholarship reflects a shared commitment to strengthening Lānaʻi’s future by investing in students who are passionate about education, community service, and returning home to make a difference. Through the generous support of the Kugelman Family Foundation, LCHC will award scholarships of up to $1,500 to eligible students enrolled in accredited post-secondary programs, part-time or full-time.

Who Should Apply

The scholarship is open to Lānaʻi residents who have graduated from, or will graduate from, Lānaʻi High and Elementary School and are continuing their education in the health sciences, health-related administration, or finance fields. Preference will be given to LHES graduating seniors.

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Academic excellence with a minimum 3.2 GPA
  • Leadership and community involvement
  • A commitment to serving the Lānaʻi community through a future career in health services

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants Must:
  • Be a resident of Lāna’i graduating, or has graduated from Lāna’i High and Elementary School and
    attending a university or college (preference will be given to LHES 2026 graduating seniors)
  • Be accepted to an accredited, post-secondary US-located community college or university (attach proof
    of acceptance or transcripts) for the academic year 2026-2027.
  • Major in the medical & health science-related field.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher

What the Scholarship Supports

This scholarship is intended to ease the financial burden of higher education while encouraging students to pursue meaningful careers that directly benefit Lānaʻi. Recipients are selected based on academic achievements, leadership roles, extracurricular activities, community service, and a personal essay outlining their goals and vision for giving back.

  • Scholarship amount: Up to $1,500

Application Process

  • A completed scholarship application form
  • Resume: academic achievements, school, and community services, along with other extra-curricular
    activities
  • One academic letter of recommendation
  • One professional letter of recommendation
  • Official high school or college transcripts, sealed by the registrar or bursar’s office
  • Letter of acceptance from an accredited college or university
  • Personal essay: Please address the following questions in a minimum two-page essay.
    • Summarize your academic achievements, leadership roles, community services, and other
      extra-curricular activities
    • Indicate the area you plan to pursue and how it will impact the community of Lanai.
    • Summarize your short and long-term goals
    • Indicate how this scholarship will allow you to achieve those goals
